The Mercury Racing 400 XL AMS DTS V10 is a 4-stroke outboard marine engine designed for high-speed performance boats, race boats, and offshore sport boats requiring an extra-long shaft. It features a 350 HP / 257 kW, 5700 cc V10 (10-cylinder) engine. The Racing series is Mercury's high-performance oriented outboard engine group. With a naturally aspirated high-performance engine and Racing ECU calibration, maximum power and speed are targeted.
High-performance ECU calibration extends the optimal power band compared to standard FourStroke engines. AMS electro-hydraulic steering ensures precise maneuverability at high speeds.
The extra-long shaft (572 mm (22.5")) allows the propeller to operate at the correct water depth in large fiberglass and aluminum boats with high freeboards. It is 64 mm longer than a standard long shaft (508 mm).

4-stroke Mercury engines operate trouble-free for many years with regular oil changes and end-of-season maintenance protocols. The impeller of the water-cooled system should be checked every 100 hours or every two seasons. In saltwater use, freshwater flushing is mandatory after each use.
